Q: Do I need to install something on my iOS device?

A: No, only make sure your iOS device is running iOS 4.2 and above

Q: I turned my Mac off and I can’t print anymore via AirPrint. Why?

A: Your iOS device require that your Mac be running for AirPrint Shared printers to be available. If you have an Apple Airport Extreme you can use it as a sleep proxy. Simply make sure your Mac is configured to allow Wake on LAN and the Airport Extreme will wake your Mac when you need to print.

Q: I am seeing my printer listed in handyPrint but I can’t see it on my iOS device?

A1: Make sure the WiFi symbol show up in the menu bar as shown below:

If you see 2G, 3G or LTE AirPrint won’t work since you are not connected to a WiFi network.

Make sure your iDevice is connected over WiFi to the same network as your Mac. Sometimes your iDevice may connect to the Guest network and won’t be able to see printers.

Some users have reported that turning WiFi OFF and ON again on the iOS device allow for proper advertisements to be sent by the WiFi router.

Your router must also support Bonjour (Multicast) for handyPrint to work. Don’t worry, most do. Make sure Multicast is Enabled/Allowed on your router.  This is often found under advanced settings on your router control panel.  How to actually configure this will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Please contact your Router Company for questions regarding Multicast support.

Some routers are not Bonjour compatible. If you’re not seeing handyPrint advertised printers in the iOS list, you can test without your router by choosing “Create Network” from your Mac’s Airport menu:

Then connect your iOS device to this new network instead of your home network. If printers are showing in the list your router may not be suitable for Apple Bonjour advertisement or your iOS device may be on a different subnet.

You may want to try to reboot your WiFi router. This help sometime. Other users have reported that reseting their router to factory defaults also got things working.

You can print from the Apple applications, such as Mail, Safari, Photos, Camera, Maps, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Filemaker Go, and so on. Apps available from the App Store may also offer this feature.

To print, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the action icon action icon.
  2. Tap the Print button.
  3. Select the appropriate settings, and then tap Print.

Important: If you are printing for the first time, or if the previously selected printer is not available, you will need to select a printer before step 3.

Note: AirPrint displays only the essential printer options that apply to the document or image being printed. Details such as media type, page size, and orientation are automatically determined at print time.

Q: I have printers attached to a Windows PC that are showing with a lock icon. I can use them. How can I fix this?

Q: Nothing come out of the printers when I print from my iOS device

A1:  It usually is a firewall or anti-virus issue. Some users have reported that they had to allow connectivity to handyPrintDaemon in the anti-virus app they used to get it to work.

Now, for the OSX firewall:

1. Open System Preferences and select “Security & Privacy”

2. Select Firewall and click the lock icon if it is locked:

3. Type in an admin account username and password

4. Click on Firewall Options…:

5. Make sure that both handyPrint and handyPrintDaemon/handyPrintUserDaemon allow incoming connections:

If you see that one of them is marked as “Block” then simply change the option to “Allow” and click OK.

You may also want to make sure you allow signed app to receive incoming connections:

If that does not work then you may also want to check that there is no print jobs stuck in your iOS device. Double click on the home button and look for a printer icon. If there is one touch it and delete all print jobs inside.

If that still does not work you may try to reset the print system on your Mac. To do this right click on one of the printers and select “Reset printing system…”

You will then need to add back all the printers. That might help get things going.

Q: Nothing come out of the printers when I print from my iOS device

A2:  Open System Preference and select Print & Scan

Select your printer and click on “Open Print Queue…”

Select Jobs in the menubar and select “Show Everyone’s Jobs”. All queued jobs will now be seen. If there are offending jobs you can deleted them and this should allow print to continue.

Q: I have problem typing in my activation code

A: Make sure to type the email address all in lowercase. Upper cases will result in error during code validation.

Q: I don’t have a PayPal account and don’t want one. How can I donate?

A: You can donate with Visa without creating a PayPal account. PayPal will process direct Visa payments just like any other online merchant. See the picture below showing this option:
